Malala Yousufzai, Caroline and Technology

Caroline and I were just talking about Malala Yousufzai (the Pakistani girl who was shot by the Taliban for standing up for a girl’s right to education).   We were wondering if this young girl was still alive.  Caroline walked to the computer as she kept talking.  She maintained eye contact as she brought up Google.  She glanced at the screen to pick the Wikipedia link…and continued to participate in the conversation as she scrolled half way down Malala’s page.   She paused as she found her spot and read to me that she still was.  It was good news…and impressive.

Caroline, at 14, is seamless with technology.  She knows how to use it to answer questions and move things forward.  She communicates, entertains, learns and connects with technology.  It serves her, and she benefits constantly from it.

I know many downtown professionals who can not say the same.  They fight technology.  They fear it.  They work hard not to learn it.  And in doing so, they lose…and so does their company.

It is such a shame.
