November 11th is Remembrance Day here in Canada. Other countries recognize this day as well and the point is the exact same: We stop and remember the men and woman who sacrificed their lives for the freedom we have today. We wear a red poppy over our hearts as a symbol of remembrance… and gratefulness.
I have 253 friends on Facebook and “+500” on LinkedIn. You have declared yourselves “connected to me”… so let’s connect.
I would like to ask ALL of my friends to consider wearing a poppy this Nov 11th. Don’t do it for me, do it as a conscious choice to honor those who served. Do it to show others you’ve paused to think of them. Do it to say “thanks”, or perhaps to say “holy shit did your life ever suck so mine wouldn’t… “.
If you live abroad, as a number of my friends do, you can improvise… A red scarf, a red ribbon… whatever suits you.
Thank you for considering this request… I think wearing a poppy matters, as it plays a small role in ensuring that we never forget the sacrifice so many made for us.
